Math HomeworkIf you need another copy of the math homework, please let me know!
Math Part 1: The math homework contains some information that we have covered in class, but it also contains some problems that we have not (yet) covered in class. The purpose is to expose students to new problems. To access it, click on the file above. Math Part 2: Your child received a set of math fact cards. The fact cards will change frequently, and each child will be on a different level of math facts. Please take a few minutes each night to practice these cards with your child. They will be tested every Friday. This week, we will not have a fact fluency test since it is a shorter week. Click on the flashcard icon to access the flashcards. |
Reading Homework
Important Note: The books that your child reads for the school-wide reading challenge WILL count for the 2nd grade 100 book challenge. Let me know if you need an extra log.
Please read with your child for fifteen minutes each night and complete the reading log. When your child has read either fifteen chapters in a chapter book or fifteen separate picture books, he/she will receive a prize. In addition to the individual prize, the second grade teachers will also be providing a monthly group reward for any second grade that completes the log. Second grade has a goal to read 100 books by the 100th day of school. I am keeping a log of the books we read in class, and the books recorded on the reading log also count! At Sidney Deener, we have made a collective commitment to help increase oral reading fluency. Take a look at the second grade goals below. Words Per Minute Goals: Beginning: 59+ Middle: 81+ End: 94+ |
Take Home BinderEvery child has a take home binder. The binder has two pockets. Please take a look at the notes in the "Important Notes" pocket; some of the notes will need to be signed and returned to school. Be sure to read all notes that are sent home. The items in the "Completed Work" pocket can stay at home.
Each take home binder also has a Clip Slip. The students will record their behavior (according to the clip chart) on the Clip Slip each day. Please initial this sheet each night. Behavior Clip Chart Colors: Yellow=Glowing Student Green=Happy Camper Orange=Check your Compass (Warning) Blue=Need S'more Effort (Lose 1 Deener Dollar) Gray=Don't Be a Stinker (Behavior Report) Red=Fire Alert (Teacher's Choice) In addition to the behavior clip chart, we will have a classroom economy system. This system teaches students how to be responsible with money, and it also allows students to earn "Deener Dollars" for positive behavior. They can use these dollars to buy small prizes at our Deener Dollar Deals store. To learn more about this system, take a look at the note attached below.
